problem with g77

Hello,
I've got some problems with the GNU g77 compiler (a 
fortran 77 compiler) running on linux. The compiler is compiling the program 
correctly but I can't use the output file : when I write a.out in an xterm 
window, I receive the shell message "Command not found".
Has anybody an idea where that comes from (it looks 
like the output file is not corectly linked or something like that...) 
?
