Re-target-ting Gcc to JVM

hi,

Has anyone attempted to re-target C code to JVM
opcodes. I have been
successful in patching the gnu assembler to assemble
JVM instructions to
class files to a large extent. Does someone have a
piece that would take the
RTL representation and generate the JVM instructions.
Any pointers to how
this can be done?

I also saw something on GCJ .Does this have the
necessary stuff done to gas
that would assemble any given java asm program and
generate the
corresponding class files with debugging info etc.?
