HELP: gcc-core-x.x.x vs gcc-x.x.x

What is the difference in 
gcc-core vs the full gcc.
I was trying to make a cross-toolchain.
For the compiler, with the method I was using only gcc-core gave me success.

When using the full gcc, there were files that the make process could not
locate.
