The reason I suggested turning if off by default is that most of us mortals
can't handle recompiling egcs and libstdc++.  Those who really want this
option turned on are usually on a higher plane and can handle it.  As it
stands now, you're excluding a very large number of users.  This hurts the
project in the long run because egcs is developing a reputation of being
unstable.
