I have been benchmarking G77 from EGCS (including the PCG version) and comparing it
under Linux with the Portland Group compiler (evaluation version available
at http://www.pgroup.com ). On my machine (Pentium II 350 MHz) Porland
compiler appears to be 22 % faster that EGCS and 11 faster than EGCS/PCG
(CVS spanshot). I have used the best compiler flags for each compiler:
-march=pentiumpro -mcpu=pentiumpro -O6 -fomit-frame-pointer -ffast-math
for EGCS and -fast for Porland Group compiler. Any hint on how to get
faster code is welcome.
The fortran code can be downloaded from
ftp://juguete.quim.ucm.es/pub/bench_poly.tar.gz
I would like to see it added to your benchmarks. The benchmark takes about
10 minutes on my machine; you can make the benchmark about 10 times faster
replacing 200 and 2000 by 20 in the input file run.in. I have also tested other
Fortran programs and found a similar ratio.
I hope this program helps making EGCS/G77 faster.
