You can get precompiled binaries from the FSF, see

The most recent edition is from March 1998, so it won't include 2.95
binaries. After you get the version included running, I recommend
direct upgrade to 2.95.2 from source.

AFAIK, GCC should compile with the host compiler on all platforms. If
it doesn't, that would be a bug.
