I, for one, think we should really try to get this patch into 3.0.  I
thought that you had some schemes for backwards-compatibility that
would allow us to reap the benefits of the patch without breaking the
ABI.  

In any case, this is an important bug, and we should fix it.  You've
done most of the work; we should get this finished up and checked in.

Unfortunately, I don't have time to look at this for several weeks,
but maybe I can at that point.  I don't know if Jason has time to
look, or whether he agrees with me that it's important.  (Another
consistent point of view would be to just wait for the IA-64 ABI to
settle out, and implement that as the new ABI.  I'm just doubtful that
will happen before the next major release.)
