Printing Color Characters on Linux Console

Hi

1)I want to write color characters on linux console.  I wanted to know if
there is somethings like gotoxy() , textcolor() and cprintf() of borland c
in gcc ?I need both locating and color printing functions.

2)I want to lock files , as I read in Steven's Book on Network Programming
there are two functions lockf() and flock() but I think none of them
exists in gcc. Am I to use other methods

3)What about BSD Sockets , does gcc use them ?
