egcs-1.1b.tar.gz crc problem

I had this problem too, although on another ftp site.
Hmm, I can't remember it anymore, but now I think of it, it went
wrong with a particular client; either netscape or ncftp, while the
other client worked.  If you're using netscape, try downloading it
with ncftp and vicaversa.
