IRIX 6 LD64 Crash

Do any of you Irix wizards know what to make of:

  ld64: FATAL 2: Internal: at ../../ld/multigot.c 
  mgot_estimate_gots: gprel sections too large for this group

I got this while trying to link a large C++ program (using g++) today.
Relevant options include `-mabi=64 -mips4'.  Using the SGI -multigot
option didn't make a difference.

While this is clearly an SGI bug, I ask the question in this forum
because it is possible that something about the code GCC is generating
is responsible for this problem; the SGI tools are able to compile and
link the same large program without apparent disaster.
