m68k-unknown-elf not supported?

I just tried configuring egcs-1.1a for m68k-unknown-elf.  It came back 
with:

    Configuration m68k-unknown-elf not supported

Why doesn't gcc ever seem to want to support elf on m68k?  I had this 
same problem back on gcc 2.7.2.2, but I had hoped elf was included by 
now.  I have some patches I got from someone on the crossgcc list for 
2.7.2.2, but I don't know if I can apply them to egcs.

Does anyone have current patches to allow egcs-1.1a to build m68k-*-elf?
