internal compiler error in c-pragma.c

I ran across the following error compiling the gnome-core distribution
with the latest (19981026) snapshot of egcs -

After some time, I got it in my stupid head that the file (c-pragma.c)
was NOT in the gnome distribution, but in egcs. It looks like it is
puking on the call to #pragma interface in the following code (this in
the desktop-properties directory of gnome-core):

the relevant line in the egcs code is:

Well, this is as far as I have had a chance to take it. I have never run
across the #pragma interface directive before, but since it threw an
internal compiler error, thought this list might be interested. any
suggestions?
