Need a clue on making a cross compiler.

I grabbed  the FAQ file from ftp.cygnus.com/pub/embedded/crossgcc but I am
still somewhat confused. BTW, I'm using egcs-1.1b.

1. Are these patch files supposed to be applied to the egcs distribution
or is egcs "ready to go" ?

2. Where do I find egcs specific patch files?
