Problem compiling python

Ladies and Gentlemen:
I am having a problem compiling python versions 1.4, 1.5, and 1.5.1. I think it is due to egcs. The error is:
/usr/include/__math.h: in function 'floatsleep':
/usr/include/__math.h:277:'asm' needs too many reloads
I will have a look at the offending header file when I get the time to do so. I am using glibc 2.0.6, if that is of concern.
