libstdc++ compatibility

I'm curious how you do this, do you keep an egcs-1.0.3 compiler around just
to build libstdc++-2.8?  Or do you build it with a hacked egcs-1.1?  Or do
you distribute a binary?

Just trying to wrap my head around the problem....
