libc/glibc, linux and egcs

I have a libc5.4.46 Linux system 2.0.33 (2.1.X soon?), all the latest
binutils, ld.so, etc... I also have egcs-1.0.3b binaries from tsx-11.mit.edu,
everything working fine. I would like to keep up with a recent version of the
compiler so I figure time to try egcs 1.1.

Does egcs care whether it is built with a libc system or a glibc system ?
Does egcs get tested more with libc5 or glibc, or both (near) equally?
