A faster approach might be a pointer to a basic block structure (which could
have a number for printing out).  Same thing for register numbers, instead of
an integer that is then used as an index into multiple tables, why not a
pointer to a table entry.  Just because rtl has been mostly integers and
pointers to rtl/rtvec in the past (for examples, rtl can now point directly to
bitmaps).
