passing -o filename with multiple compile

This is the problem. Unless the gcc-2.7 cpp the egcs cpp doesn't
predefine symbols like `i386'. But the XFree config files depend
on this symbol to set e.g. i386Architecture which in turn is
needed to set LinuxMachineDefines (cf. linux.cf). (Note that
when you invoke cpp thru gcc, gcc will supply -Di386 when running cpp.
Hence compiles aren't effected by this change in behaviour,
only when you explicitly invoke cpp, as e.g. imake does).
Assuming that you are on Intel the fix is to use

     make World BOOTSTRAPCFLAGS=-Di386

when building the X server. And make sure the imake that gets built
in xc/config/imake is installed, because this imake will now pass
`-Di386' when it invokes cpp). Otherwise any future xmkmf that you do
will suffer from the same problem.
