Cygnus has a vested interested in seeing GCC as a whole succeed
and sees egcs as vital to the success of GCC.

As a result Cygnus supports egcs by providing hardware (egcs machine,
disks, network connections, etc) and manpower to the egcs project.

The relationship with gnu pro is about what you'd expect at this
time -- current gnu pro releases are based on our own internal
compiler which was based on gcc2 snapshots + our many local changes.

Many of those local changes are being fed into the egcs project,
like the haifa scheduler, regmove and other changes.


At some point in the future Cygnus gnu-pro products will be based
on egcs.  Of course we'll also be continuing our own development
(either contract based or interanlly funded) of new features, ports,
optimizations, etc.    Since our customers ultimately pay for all
of this, we'll continue to give them first crack at new development
done by Cygnus; after which it will be donated to the egcs project.


This really isn't significantly different than the model Cygnus had
been using with the FSF gcc releases in the past.  The difference is
our changes (like everyone elses) get into the compiler much faster
than before.  And the faster release cycles get those changes out
to the public at large much faster than before.
