I'm using binutils-2.8.1.

Before building egcs itself, I built binutils, installed it, and placed
the installation directory to the head of my path.

I also changed the environment variable LD_LIBRARY_PATH.  I added
<egcs buildir>/libraries/libstdc++ to the front.

This was with egcs-1.0.1.  I had *many* more errors with egcs-1.0 when
I enabled shared.
