incompatible spec files?

Unfortunately, spec file handling has always been a little goofy.

The format of the spec file isn't documented anywhere, and unfortunately
the format has changed between every significant gcc release that I'm
aware of.  Worse yet, subtle things like an extra newline in a specs file
can cause the compiler to crash.

If you've got some sample text, I'll happily add it to the FAQ.
