egcs 1.0.1 - Bug: compilation doesn't stop

I compiled egcs 1.0.1 in a debian hamm system(glibc) and installed it in
/usr/local/egcs.
Then I downloaded lmbench from
http://reality.sgi.com/lm/lmbench/lmbench.html and compiled it and all went
fine. But the makefile compiles some of the files with no optimization. I
tried to compile lat_ctx.c with -O3 -march=i486 -funroll-loops and it
wouldn't stop compiling it! It had already used 4 minutes of CPU time when I
stopped it. I can send the file if you want, it's only 7K.
By the way, my CPU it's a Cyrix 6x86, does someone know what the best flags
are to compile for it? How about a -mcpu=cyrix ?
