That just seems like overkill at this time.  It's not clear that we
need the version # to change every time.

And the cost of doing that is noticable -- we would have had over 700
versions by now, and each and every one that you built and installed
would have gone into its own install directory.

I just haven't seen that much ambiguity in bug reports and such that
leads me to believe that we need to bump the version # for each checkin.
If we do see lots of problems of this nature, then changing the version
number more rapidly would make sense.
