This is i586-pc-linux-gnu, binutils-2.8.1.0.20, glibc-2.0.6-9 (RedHat-5.0
update).
--enable-{shared,haifa,threads}, -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -march=pentium

Note: I had to rebuild gcc/configure, the patch got rejected. There were
also rejects for libio/dbz/dbzmain.c and libraries/libio/dbz/dbzmain.c
