egcs-1.0.1 and gdb

I installed the egcs-1.0.1 compiler on my PPro running Solaris 2.5.1. The first
thing I tried was to compile with debug information. But it does not work. I
tried all the different -g options, but gdb-4.16 is not able to find the
debugging symbols? I did

./configure --prefix=/server/local/egcs --with-gnu-as --with-stabs
make bootstrap
make install

There is another gcc version istalled, the pgcc-2.90.21 971202 (egcs-1.00
release). I've got it as a package for Solaris. With this gcc I only need to
use the -g switch, and the debugging symbols are included.

What's wrong?

MfG Udo
