I'd just change it and not look back. First, sparc linux is
relatively new. Second, long double is relatively new. I'd consider
a 64 bit double/long double implementation, as an implementation that
doesn't support long double. So, going from doesn't support long
double to supporting long double isn't so bad.
Similarly, I'd consider a 32 bit long long system to be wrong, and it
should just be fixed to be 64 bits now, even if it had always been 32
bits.
Look at it this way, the people that wanted longer than double doubles
and used long doubles will never know that yesterday it was broken and
you fixed it. If you fail to fix it, they will just submit bug
reports complaining about it.
