Testing g77 using LAPACK -

The problem was of my own making. Needed to remove a couple of
PARAMETER ( C = MAX(A,B) ) statements (unsupported extension to f77)
and got one wrong.
Have just built and checked g77 from egcs-19980816 on mips-sgi-irix6.2.
No problems.
