You might find the attached messages useful.  I never got any reply
about it.  They solved the problem I had but aren't really very
generalized.

With these patches installed, you add an RE in your baseboards/*.exp
file to just automatically set those tests to unsuported.   The line 
would look something like this:

        set_board_info exclude_from_build (-fPIC|-fpic)

As the keep of one of the other x86 ports, that's pretty much my goal. :-)
