This problem has already been fixed in the CVS sources.

	/tmp/cca15253.s: Assembler messages:
	/tmp/cca15253.s:4: Error: Unknown pseudo-op:  `.arch'

I believe this means that you need a newer assembler.  I think the .arch
was deliberately left in so that older buggy assembler would give an
obvious failure at egcs build time.
