Can you send me the various config.log files lying around in
your build tree?  (you can send this directly to me, it doesn't
need to go to the list)

Also, do you have any environment variables or similar stuff
which might cause autocoonf to assume a copy of ranlib was
available in a particular place, when in fact it didn't even
exist?
