linux libstc++ pthread mystery solved!

I had the (nearly) the same problem. The main solution is "configure". I hadn't 
re'configure'd the distribution (and it didn't by itself).
Ulrich added some weak symbols inside 'configure' (if I've understood it right). 
With the new 'configure' this problem was solved.
