As requested in your installation documentation:

I successfully built and installed egcs. config.guess says

i686-pc-linux-gnulibc1

It looks great! I tested some constructs that brought gcc 2.7.2 to its
knees. No problem for egcs 1.0! Eagerly awaiting namespaces,
congratulations,
