Richard, it's not your patch. The guilty one has been identified by 
friday morning and reverting the guilty patch brings ppc linux and 
darwin back in bootstrap land. Until another one which broke bootstrap 
on ppc linux today, most probably by Devang.

I'm a bit surprised that nobody has taken care of this bootstrap breakage.
Especially I did not see / read anything about the author of the patch:

Ok, reverting it locally is easy, but this is not the solution.

Jim would you please take care of this breakage?
