Failure to bootstrap for mips on mips-elf

The tree has failed during the bootstrap step. The last 30 lines of
the log are below; since I do parallel builds, the error may not be on the
last line.

Host was an athlon-xp (i686) system. Target was specified as mips-elf.
This particular run used a unified gcc+binutils tree.
