Odd.  This doesn't trigger in none of x86, ppc, alpha, ia64 nor x86-64. 
Must be OS specific.  Send me a .i?

I doubt I'll be able to work on it until Monday, so feel free to undo my
patch if you need to bootstrap during the weekend.
