    When I try to compile your testcase with:
    gcc version 3.0.1 20010813 (prerelease)
    
    I do not get an ICE, but I get 
    the following compilation error:
    
    In file included from ../magick/api.h:85,
                     from ../magick/magick.h:74,
                     from fits.c:55:
    ../magick/image.h:296: parse error before `;' token
    
    Can you obtain a gcc 3.0.1 snapshot and try again?
