The assembler is not valid (two references to memory in the
same assembly instruction) - the problem is the ICE.
It is partly misleading because "%c" ask to remove the "$"
and "%a" ask to add the address syntax - on i386.
Maybe you can look at:
http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-bugs/2001-02/msg00006.html
to have an exemple of the ICE where it would be assembling
and working - and it is the only way to get the right instruction.
