Hehe, that is precisely what I was thinking about too, except that I would be grepping for plugin switch :)

Perhaps we could print this info in human readable form into  gcc --verbose or gcc --version or gcc --help?
With --verbose it is the place we ask people to look into expansion of -march=native & friends, so it may make sense.
