I don't think so: instead, I suppose this was meant to enforce use of
Sun ld even if GNU ld happens to be earlier in PATH.  But from my
reading of install.texi, MD_EXEC_PREFIX (/usr/ccs/bin in the Solaris 2
case) has precedence over PATH, though I haven't tried this yet.

Thanks for the grammar corrections, that's what you get when you hurry
to install a patch before the easter weekend and the branch closing ;-)
