Thanks.  I have tested the patch now, and think it does TRT wrt. an
uninstalled compiler.  It doesn't solve the other problems mentioned
in PR testsuite/41166 wrt. installed compilers, but those problems have
been present before the autotools upgrade already.  In that sense, I
think my patch fixes the regression part of the PR.

So, OK to commit

I'd appreciate somebody with testsuite experience to have a look.
