Fair enough, I'll dig in the archives the proposed patch and give it a try.

Sorry again for the misunderstanding and for the extra work this caused you,
I really believe we should be able to fix the semantics of --GCC without
breaking existing set ups, and this is a much preferable path to me than
introduce a new specialized switch.
