Sorry, I've not been hanging around for some time,
so I wasn't aware of what the current policy is.

The comments I received in the thread "4.3 release
plan", it looked like a patch like this would be
safe enough to backport to 4.2, and so it would
show up in a released version before another 15
months.

But anyway, I don't care that much about getting
it into the FSF tree as it's already in Fedora's
GCC anyway.
