tests for compiler (non-)limits

Is someone doing something about this?
This test is killed due to out out of memory by the kernel, which is very 
annoying. This machine has 512MB RAM/512MB swap and otherwise a pretty 
normal i386 system, is that too little already?
Looking at other test results I'm wondering whether the local settings 
have an influence? I use "--disable-nls", other failing results used 
"--enable-clocale=gnu".
