[PTR-PLUS] Merge from the mainline (just before the dataflow merge)

Hi,
  I merged the mainline, revision 125611, to the pointer_plus branch. This 
revision was from last night (before the dataflow merge).

Built and tested on powerpc64-linux-gnu and spu-elf with no regressions.
