I deeply apologize for letting that escape.  I had to edit the configure file to 
get it to work on one of my testing platforms (I was told it was a known bug and 
was not easy to fix in a "proper" way), and I thought I had reverted it before 
checking in the patch.  In retrospect, I think I must have tried to revert the 
top-level configure file instead.  :-P
