Gosh, and I'd like it back ported from 4.3 to 4.2.  Do we have to  
wait until we branch to start doing that?  I've reviewed the patch  
for safety given where we are in the release process and I think it  
is safe enough.  The patch was originally posted 5 months ago.  :-(
