ISO_C_BINDING patch commited to fortran-experiments branch

I don't think creating a new branch costs anything, so the current  
fortran-experiments branch can just be EOLed, once the C bindings are  
finished.  That would avoid a nubmer of possible pilot errors, and  
make the branches history more transparent.
