ping for NetWare adjustments patch

was submitted more than three weeks ago, but the only reply I got so far was an approval to check this into the 4.0 tree *after* it was applied to mainline. I am attaching a slightly updated version; could anyone privileged enough have a look and point out required changes or approve this?
