Regression testing in the updated sh-elf-4_1-branch uncovered two problems.
I have attached an updated patch which sucessfully bootstrapped 
i686-pc-linux-gnu
and regression tested this platform and i686-pc-linux-gnu X sh-elf in the
sh-elf-4_1-branch (not in mainline because PR22258 is still not resolved).

If you have already begun to review the previous patch, you can find
(relatively small) incremental patches in bugzilla
( http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=20070, comments 13 and 14).
