My point is that few systems have HAVE_DECL_BASENAME defined 
appropriately.

powerpc-apple-darwin8, though, I suspect it happens on all system save 
the ones listed in the ifdef, which are: __GNU_LIBRARY__, __linux__, 
__FreeBSD__, __OpenBSD__, __NetBSD__, __CYGWIN__, __CYGWIN32__, 
__MINGW32__ and a few other random systems that might put the decl for 
basename in one of stdio.h, sys/types.h, sys/stat.h, stdlib.h, 
stddef.h, memory.h, string.h, strings.h, inttypes.h, stdint.h, or 
unistd.h.

Ok?
